If you’re new to freelance writing, there’s a lot to learn — and unfortunately, it’s easy to make mistakes along the way. Here are five of the most common mistakes new freelance writers make, and how to avoid them:

1. Not doing enough research

When you’re just starting out, it’s tempting to accept any writing gig that comes your way. But if you want to be successful in the long run, it’s important to do your research and make sure you’re a good fit for the client and the project. Otherwise, you could end up wasting your time and effort on a job that’s not a good match for your skills or interests.

2. Not being organized

A successful freelance writing career requires good time management and organizational skills. If you’re not careful, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by deadlines and client requests. Make sure you keep track of your projects and due dates, and set aside enough time for each task. Otherwise, you’ll quickly find yourself falling behind — and that’s not a good position to be in when you’re self-employed.
