Giving Up on Fiverr
The relationship started off so well…
Having had a gig posted on Fiverr for years (and neglected for just as long) I was surprised at the beginning of January to receive an order. The client was awesome, the pay was good, and my optimism shot through the roof.
I’ve seen so many headlines about people making 6 figures on their side hustles through Fiverr and other such sites. I figured this was a stepping stone into financial freedom.
My first client was incredible. She was responsive. She wanted add-ons and was happy to pay. She was understanding of the one delay that set me back.
In other words, with my sample size of one, I figured Fiverr was going to be incredible.
And for a couple of weeks, it was incredible. That first five-star review started an onslaught of nearly daily orders for other buyers wanting similar services. Cha-ching… or so I thought.
But, more than any other freelance work I’ve ever done, the scope creep started happening on every order.
I’m an Excel expert so I was offering to help people create customized spreadsheets. I suppose, in retrospect, a customized spreadsheet is not as well-defined as, say, a 500 words article. In the case of the article, you either have 500 words or you don’t.
